I recently started "a period of intensive training" in aikido. One thing
that I want to do is to occasionally video my training, so that I can
get some visual feedback on what I'm doing.
Rather than going the GoPro route, I'm considering a Ricoh optio WG-3.

I read a review of the current WG-4 which said that it wasn't much
improved over the WG-3 and the WG-3 seems to be available for $160
rather than $250.

My thoughts are that for other than doing training videos, it would be
handy to have a small, waterproof and shockproof camera. I'm making the
assumption that the sensor will work a lot better than the one in my 14
year old camcorder, and in any case, it doesn't take buying too many
tapes for the camcorder to pay for itself, plus the time involved in
copying video from the camcorder onto the computer to watch it.
The down side is that for stills, it won't shoot in RAW format, just
JPEG. Even so, it's a lot easier to carry on my bike than my DSLR, and
should do a lot better stills than a gopro, which is a lot more expensive.
This review said that the WG4 had the best photo quality of the
waterproof camera test
