Sorry, I wasn't clear. What I meant was does the AF performance seem adequate/typical in the context of the depth of field one gets at f/2.8 (for a more fair comparison with other fast zooms).
Actually, I think the aperture used for TTL AF is set by the AF system, not the lens. So while it's true that the lens is open to f/1.8 during focusing, I think it's effectively only focusing at f/5.6 or f/2.8 depending on which camera and AF point you're using.
