I looked into this technique after I stumbled upon an anamorphic
projection lens at a local antique store several months ago. (I didn't
buy it, but looked at it and realized it was something "out of the
ordinary"). Googling, I found this technique.

 I'm pretty sure the lens was still there the last time I was in
there. If memory serves, it was priced at about $90. It just didn't
interest me that much at the time. It is a long and heavy lens, but I
have to admit that the Geek Factor alone makes the concept appealing
go me. I doubt that I will ever see another lens like that locally for
under a $100 (and who knows, they may accept a lot less).
