I now also have a SkyView Pro german equatorial mount with dual DC
drives and Intelliscope (push-to) computer, which I hope to get out
with and try imaging through my Orion ED80T CF soon. But this is a
much smaller, lighter and portable set-up which works well with DSLR
and not-overly-large lenses.

One could also construct a barn door drive, assuming you could built
it correctly, to do the same thing, but the Polarie also has different
modes: Lunar, Solar, and Siderial (stars).
Some people also use the iOptron knock-off of the Polarie which is
cheaper and includes a polar-alignment tool.
