It's not that much or problem if you think about it, keeping old
software going is but DNG however old should be able to be read with
later software (so long as they adhere to the spec).My TIFF files
scanned 2-+ years ago still read fine and they have migrated along
with all my other archival data. I think the key is to pick the most
universal formats and to ensure that if those formats fall out of
favor to migrate that data to the newer formats.

It doesn't matter whether data is physical or digital it still needs
to be maintained one way or another, even if that maintenance is
making sure that the shoe-box doesn't get wet and moldy.
