I have a small army of umbrella mounts, like this one which is $5 ...

This particular one is extra useful because the shoe can be unscrewed
and a wireless trigger can be screwed on instead. That saves you some
height inside smaller softboxes.

Note that some of the parts are plastic and the umbrella hole lets an
umbrella wobble because of crappy machining. If you need better
quality, decent umbrella adapters are $20.

If you want super-simple, you can screw some bare hotshoes right onto
the 1/4-20 stud on top of the lightstand. Doesn't give you any
adjustability though. I much prefer the umbrella mount.

Bare hotshoes come in a poly bag for a few bucks each. You can bolt
them onto binder clips or pieces of wood or whatever your inventive
mind can come up with. :-)
