OKAY! I'll pull it up, if I still have it, and take another look.
I recall being especially pleased with the splintered tree shading in a scene
that really doesn't, otherwise, thrill me.
Ann, I didn't realize you hadn't received my reply to your off-list
email. I'm using PE10.
I gathered that :-)
Applied your system (with variations) of
conversion in __random sequences.
Umm well, the sequence I did it in seems to matter..
Desaturate first, then save in gray-scale, then adjust
brightness and contrast and crop to taste.
I used elements 5.0 where there is a pull-down with 3 sliding things
for Hue, saturation, and lightening...
ON the one I sent I see no halos.. why don't you post that
and see what happens when others view on their monitors - might help
figure things out. I don't think showing what I did to it on my web site
would help as it adds another variation in technology.
Hope we can get it figured out for you
ann
When I was content with the detail
and contrast in the primary elements, I left it at that.
Thanks, Ann, Bruce and Bulent.

Jack,
I, like Bruce, see halos around trees. They are "encircled" by a
brighter rim of sky.
I suspect your monitor might be making those halos invisible.
Maybe you should examine the image using another monitor...

Thanks, Bruce. I'm not disagreeing with you, but a halo does not exist for me on the
"interface."
I can detect a very subtle lighter tone across the horizon behind the trees. I
suspect
it's at least partially due to the common lighter sky tone seen just above the
horizon. In any
case, I'm going to allow it to exist undisturbed.
Again, your comments are appreciated, Bruce.
Thanks!
Jack

Hmm. Halos still present. Especially noticeable at interface between
sky and trees in background, and the right side of the foreground
snapped trunk.
What b&w conversion software do you have available, Jack? Not Nik
Silver Efex by any chance?

Got rid of hellish halos. I like that part, but feel it needs more contrast.
The image is one that doesn't thrill me, but I got tired of trying to decide,
so here
it is.
Comments certainly welcome.
Thanks,
Jack
