I agree: taking pictures with a phone is like eating dinner with a hair brush.

Pretty well every time I try to get a shot with my "smart" phone, I
manage to exit the app while attempting to press the shutter, the
fixed wide angle is useful for almost nothing, and the noise, JPEG
distortion and low dynamic range make the results -- if any -- useless
for anything including Facebook.

I've given it up and I leave the thing in my pocket rather than
frustrate myself with it. That thing about the best camera is the one
you have with you fails to take miserable phone cams into account.
