I have to admit that was precisely the though that occurred to me;
why would I want to go to the trouble of making and using an actual
physical device when a simple digital image manipulation could do a
far better job (and also do some similar things which aren't as easy
do do with an actual device).

Not that I'm trying to belittle Larry's achievement - I'm just saying
that the whole idea just doesn't appeal to me personally in any way.
