Due to my wife’s illness, I’ve had to turn down a lot of photo shoots that involved travel. But this week I was asked to shoot a car that was garaged within minutes of my house, so I was able to handle it. Felt good. It’s a 1981 LE1 IROC-Z Camaro. GM built only a couple hundred of these out-the-back-door factory race cars, just enough to dominate showroom stock road racing that year. This one ended up in the press fleet and was preserved. A coming-of-age 1980s machine that is indeed a rarity.
