You are exactly right, Mark. I looked over a couple shots and see both vine like
branches and can make out a couple thorns.
I hadn't noticed and should have checked prior to answering. Thanks for your

Nice shot, Jack. I have a small vine of these that grows up in my hedges 
and the flowers are very pretty - I don't cut it out because they are so 
nice. Based on the flowers and the leaves, I agree with Dan that these 
are probably wild roses of some sort. If the they are on vines that are 
thorny that would be another indication.  Up here in the frozen north 
they won't bloom till mid to late June - I don't know if they would be 
blooming at this time of year in warmer climates or not. (The little 
vine in my hedges, like the hedges themselves, if just starting to leaf 
out.)
