Quoting Mark C <[email protected]>:
The HDR and Pano tool sound very useful - I use Photoshop and it has
tools that do the same functions. Any idea if the tools in LR are
the same as those in PS, or are they an improvement? (I'm guessing
that Mark R. would know...)
My understanding is that the new ACR 9 plug in for Photoshop CC
replicates the same HDR/Pano features (ie using raw data) as LR6.
I've installed the CC update but haven't played with the new features
yet.

I just spent some time playing with LR6s new HDR feature. At first
glance, I am very happy with it. It seems to do pretty much
exactly what I want in HDR, it takes several DNG files and combines
them into another DNG file with expanded dynamic range, and no tone
mapping.
I'm not sure, but I also suspect that it would work well for
stacking astro shots as well by turning off the anti-ghosting
features.
I tried it quickly on two photos from last summer and whether the
results are much better than I was able to get by carefully using
the brush tool in lightroom, it was a LOT easier. I did use the
brush to bring up the clarity on the sky to help bring out the
clouds.
