I think that “coral” would be the more appropriate name, at least in the US, and assuming my monitor calibration is on target. Salmon is a slightly yellower hue, IMO. But as you note, coral can cover a range of hues. As a color designer/paint formulator at DuPont for 30 years, one of my favorite tasks was naming the annual palette of colors we offered to the automotive companies. We tried to keep away from names which were too fanciful, seeking instead names which would evoke the color in the mind of someone reading it in a brochure.
