If it's larger than doves you usually see it might be the Eurasian
collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto). It's an introduced species in the
U.S. with a fast growing feral population.

Well, that name would certainly meet the description.
My posted info came from; The Audubon Society Field Guide to North American
Birds (Western Region).
Name; Ringed Turtle Dove (Streptopelia risoria)
The Field Guide's accompanying photo image shows the same dark partial "ring"
as is displayed on my image.
It may be a matter of accepted descriptions in varying locals.(?)
Thanks for your information, Bob.

On the subject of Doves. Started by P.J.. (I believe) I mentioned some
large
(10-12") Ringed Turtle Doves frequenting our bird feeders. They've been
showing up the last few springs.
Rather than a neck "ring" it's more like a very dark yoke across the back
of
the neck and partially around the sides.

Am posting a pretty sorry shot compared to that posted by PJ. For
information only.
