Quite astonishing actually. They seem to have completely adapted to the
urban environment & no longer see humans as a threat. On the other hand,
maybe they just enjoy being photographed?

Saturday evening ran across a few black crowned night herons hanging out
in downtown Oakland (8th and Webster). I'd say that one didn't give a
shit that I was there, but I do have photographic evidence that he gave one.
