I can't say anything about the K-3 from personal experience, but K-5 DNG files are about the same size as it's PEF files. The K20D however has a sufficient file size difference to make shooting PEF a preferred option, mostly to maximize the number of exposures per card. Disk storage has become so inexpensive that I convert the K20D pefs to DNG to work with them in Photoshop, and save both, just in case.

Thanks Brian -

Hard to teach an old dog new tricks - I've been shooting PEF's since the K10 days, I believe, and never thought to check file size on the newer bodies. I'll take a look as soon as I can.

Thanks for the suggestion Bill but IIRC I'm shooting PEF to minimize

The file size advantage of pef is not as significant as it was with
earlier models. On my K-5, there is little difference and I'd expect
the K-3 to be similar.
