I also wanted to comment on your "if I may be immodest for a moment".
I believe that to be(come) a decent, if not Good photographer, one
MUST become a good curator of one's own work. That means making
sometimes harsh assessments about one's own output. On the otherhand,
doing that well should turn up the occasional "jewel". Therefore:
I don't think that there is anything at all "immodest" about a
photographer approving of one's own work - as long as one is judicious
about it. The one who loves everything that they themselves produce is
either a narcissist or a fool (and most likely both).
