Northern breeds avoid water

Not so with my Malamute - Bear.
On his first encounter with Lake Michigan was he didn't want anything to do with it, but little by little we coaxed him in and in a matter of a few minutes we had a difficult time getting him out. He loved being tossed by the waves.

No, Bob, he does not go swimming.  Northern breeds avoid water.  They
seem to have an instinct that tells them water is cold (in the arctic
at least) and life threatening.
