Cool, I’ve seen a couple of dishes that size around here. One is pointed quite low to the horizon so they must be getting a pretty marginal signal.
I looked into setting up a small dish to pick up Australian SBS off their satellite a few years back. The signal from the bird they were using had some coverage over NZ, and they were using it to relay the signal from the mainland to Tasmania. SBS broadcasts the big cycle races free-to-air and there were a few people in NZ who’d set themselves up to receive it. The alternative here is Sky TV which is ridiculously priced. The day after I ordered all the gear I found out that SBS had commissioned a new fibre-optic link and had stopped using the satellite about two months beforehand. It was not fun trying to cancel my order and the shop gave me a reaming of a restocking fee. (I think iTunes has detected I’m writing about Australia as it’s just given me two Aussie songs in a row.)
