Actually, that was one of her more sociable moments.
When she lived with my Mom she wouldn't come out when there were any
visitors - including me. Usually, I could find her & drag her out and
she'd tolerate a few minutes petting. If she had to have medicine or
flea drops or ... I could give them too her.
Now that she's living with me again, she comes out whenever I'm sitting
at my desk. But if there are any visitors she's under the bed again,
since I don't have a couch for her to hide behind.
In my lifetime, I've had several black cats; all feral, captured/adopted
as kittens. Usually they came to me to be companions to my other cat.
Baxter came along right after I got Bailey, and she's the craziest of
all the cats I've ever had.

Ah, yes - the hiding under the bed ploy (or in our house the "if you
think I'm going to the Vet you're nuts" ploy.
..

SHE is named in honor of Baxter Black, The Cowboy Poet & Large Animal
Veterinarian because Bailey (the cat) was named for Bailey White. If you
don't know who they are, you didn't listen to NPR around the turn of the
century.
