Got a chance, years ago, to drive a military Hummer at AM General's proving ground - that Hummer was the most capably off roader I've ever driven - we followed a pro driver and there were place/obstacles that we went over that I wouldn't have attempted without seeing the pro go over them first - like a 2 foot or so vertical log wall, that the Hummer just went about and scaled.

The WWII jeeps aren't even close to the Hummer.
