You can indeed test lenses on a Pz-1P or any body that supports the "A" setting on the aperture ring. I tried the 40mm XR on an Mz-S body, shooting a few frames of B&W. It came close to covering the full frame but not quite - there was a bit of distortion and light falloff when focusing closely. I used B&W film and developed it myself, which is inexpensive, but obviously one could do the same with any film though processing costs could be higher. FWIW - I could not have seen the distortion without scanning the film (maybe a good loupe would have revealed it.) The DA Zooms I have (18-55, 16-45, 17-70) all obviously vignette on the short end so I never bothered testing them.

I wonder how legacy full frame lenses will fare optically on a full frame DSLR. I have mostly FF lenses (the four noted above are my only DA lenses, though I have a couple DFA). I look are my lense collection and see three groups - ones that worked well on film and work well on APS-C bodies, ones that I have never used with film but work well on APS-C, and those that worked well on film but fail on APS-C. I'm hoping that with the advent of the FF DSLR I don't find too many lenses in a new category - worked well on APS-C but not FF digital.

By "worked well" I mean good optical quality throughout the frame - obviously, mechanical functions (focus, zoom, stopping down) should continue to work despite the sensor size. (Except for power zooms...)

Here's another thought. Has anyone tried Testing DA lenses (or third
party APSC lenses) on a Pentax film camera to see whether they're going
to vignette too badly to use on a Full-Frame?

Will DA lenses without the aperture ring work on a PZ-1p? I mean will
the PZ-1p control the aperture or is it just going to stop down all the way?

I'm pretty sure they won't work with an LX or K1000, because of not
having an aperture ring, but if they'll work on the PZ-1p, I'd be
willing to give it a go.

The full frame body should be getting pretty close to being released.
Close enough that there should be some functional prototypes and maybe
even advanced copies for the journalists kicking around. Are there any
credible rumors or leads about what it will be like floating around?

I haven't heard any for a while, which is odd because I think I heard
them more frequently in the five years before it was announced at CP+
than I have in the months since.
