Supply is only half of the equation, the other side is demand.

Maybe if you're a collector of all things Pentax the rarity might mean something. But, digital cameras long term value doesn't hold up well, I have a *ist Ds and *ist D which aren't even worth selling. Admittedly I bought my K20D at the end of it's product life, so it's depreciation doesn't pain me so much, as I got it for a very good price, but I could buy a like new used copy for considerably less than the cost of repair of it's various issues. Why would anyone with more than two functioning brain cells pay almost twice the going price for a K30 which is almost exactly the same as a K50 internally or slightly less than the K30 for the K500 which /is/ a K50 without weather sealing? Hell why would anyone buy a used K20D unless they really liked the UI, when a New In Box K50 sells for less.

I just received a missive from Amazon that's entirely on topic. All Pentax.

The amazing part is the prices.

I can get a K-50 for only $296.47, which is really a pretty good price, then
there's the K-500 which is offered for only $539.99. Wait, what? No, no,
it's not priced in some other currency, it's USD. The rest of the e-mail is
in that vein, higher level camera lower price. Lower level longer
discontinued camera higher price.

You can buy a K-30 for more than a K-S2 and nearly twice the price of the
K-50.

I know, I've seen it before, but it never fails to boggle my mind.
