Passing this along in case anyone else can benefit...
Went to a local sports bar to watch the Thursday Night NFL contest and
met a fellow who is an engineer with the local Ducks Unlimited.
One thing led to another in conversation and he gave me his card along
with the offer to use a bird blind along the Platte River south of
Grand Island for free. He says that it is hardly ever used and only
about 1/4 mile schlep from parking. I just need to email or call him
to make a "reservation".
So I'm stoked about that. My sister, who is a much more accomplished
bird photographer than I am, will probably also welcome the news. So
looking forward to seeing what we can get from this fall's migration,
which is just underway. Hasn't even been a frost here yet, but that
should change in coming weeks.
I'm mentioning it in case any other PDMLers are interested. Contact
your local conservation organization (like Ducks Unlimited) and
inquire about blinds for photography. You may find that similar sites
are available in your area, for the asking!
I'm stoked!
Check your local parks & rec department as well. A lot of places have
bird blinds specifically for bird watching (and bird photography)
courtesy of the local chapter of the Audubon Society.
Heck, check if there's a local chapter of the Audubon Society where you
live and see if they have blinds set up.
