I haven't done the math in a while, but the break even point on whether
to print at home or farm it out used to be at about 8x10 inch size. If
you have a printer then the cost per print, for any smaller size is much
higher. You can't print 4x6 or smaller prints as inexpensively as a
good mass lab, and they work with color all the time and usually grantee
their work. (Milford Photo, they charge 16¢ to 19¢ each for bulk orders).
Unfortunately the closest good lab I'll use, the afore mentioned Milford
Photo, is more than 20 miles from where I sit. I'm sure that online
printers do just as good a job, but I like to be able to talk to the tech.
However I /like to print bigger prints myself, anyway.

I am interested in your findings. I print more in the winter and it is
time to buy supplies for the Epson. I don't know if I can break the
habit because it is my last link to film days when I developed the
film and printed in the darkroom. Sometimes I think I am only making
proofs for the ones I want to send out for enlargement or metal prints.
