I picked one of these up today for $179 at Fry's. It's an LG 25UM57-P
IPS ultra wide screen monitor. I didn't actually get it for photography,
but I suspect that might do a credible job. The resolution is 2560x1080,
and a quick look at it the colors look pretty good. I was looking for a
cheap monitor to plug into a chromebox I'm playing with, all of my
available monitors are old enough that they don't work with the
chromebox in it's restoration boot up screen, so I kept having to unplug
another monitor to use for a few minutes, one that was on a different
floor than I was working.
It has some interesting features such as being able to run as two
separate HDMI monitors virtually split down the middle, and different
modes for gaming, text and photography where I suppose it optimizes
gamma for each application.
While a larger screen would be nice, the larger versions run the same
resolution and cost a lot more. It looks like it would be good for
showing two or three pages of code side by side.
The inputs are two HDMI cables, but it is possible to run full
resolution on one of them (I suspect it might need a high bandwidth HDMI
cable to do so).
I haven't had a chance to seriously work with it much, but at first
glance it seems to be a heck of a good deal.

At Fry's the 25" is $179, the 29" is $349, the 34" is $499

LG also makes a 25" version with Display port and DVI inputs, the
LG 25UM65 but those also run quite a bit more. If you have a system
that can drive it, it seems to be a pretty nifty deal.
