I bracket at 1.3 to 2 stops. I've been doing it for years in
anticipation of doing HDR. I've almost always been able to massage the
image to bring the details out, but a couple of shots that took an hour
or two with the adjustment brush on one frame took on the order of
fifteen minutes using LR6 with its HDR feature.

for ages, the value being changed when bracketing depends on the exposure mode.
In TAv it changes sensitivity, in Tv aperture, in Av and M shutter speed.
