Have you considered getting the slides scanned and using an LCD projector?

Old Kodak Carousel's are the crankiest and most problematic machines
around. I have two of them in the basement (I think; though I haven't
seen them in a while and they may have crawled away on their own) and
neither works properly. They constantly jam, usually with an important
slide in the projector guts. We even borrowed one from a friend the
last time we needed one, and it wasn't too healthy either.

I'd say you are in for a world of hurt if you get one of these things.
