There's the same number of shutter speed marks on the dial, so the addition of 1/4000 on the 3 means that instead of going down to 2s like the 5n does, the 3 only goes down to 1s. That's from memory, but I think it's accurate. The 3 also syncs at 1/125 instead of 1/100.
