Subject: Re: OT - Happy Birthday Lucy!
It's almost 20 years since I first went to Ethiopia and I made a point on
that trip of visiting the museum in Addis where Lucy lives. I wanted to see
the real fossils, so I was rather disappointed when I learned that the
display was a cast. Of course the real ones are kept in secure specialised
storage.
I also asked about organising a visit to the Afar region, but the cost was
prohibitive - jeeps, armed guards and supplies for several days. It's a
tough area - you have to admire the team of paleontologists who spent so
long out there.

I need some good news and this is pretty cool stuff. Lucy is 41 today.
Happy birthday, Lucy!
Cheers,
