This makes no sense at all. Using the "Sunny 16" rule, the vase exposure would have been 1/250 @ f16.0. Figuring some added brightness, add a stop. But then you've added FOUR more stops of brightness to the scene. I'm guessing that some spectral highlights affected your metering.
