It's hard to guess distances with ultra-wide-angle unless you're very familiar 
with a particular focal length on a format. 
I was approximately 3' to 3.5' from the near tree; I focused just behind it to 
make sure that things were still reasonably sharp at the trees in the back 
plane. :-)
