I haven't researched it much deeper, but folks might be interested.
Should be easy to find if you have clear skies. It will be within half a
degree of Arcturus on the 1st and that's one I remember pretty well.
Find the Big Dipper & "follow the arc to Arcturus".
The forecast for Raleigh on New Year's Day is "Mostly Cloudy", but after
that it's supposed to be clear until at least next Tuesday.
