As I have commented before. Every time an acquaintance has some old
camera gear, since I'm a photographer, they seem to gift it to me. Today
I actually got something I might use.* Included with the the beat to
hell ZX-50, and desperately needing cleaning ME w/50mm f1.7 were a SMC
Pentax FA 35-80, and a Sigma 70-210 f4.0~5.6 UC-II, both in really nice
condition.
While I'm not partial to Sigma lenses as a rule, the 70-210 is pretty
nice, well made, (though mostly of plastic), both focus and zoom rings
are well damped, focus is snappy when used on the K-5II though flash
exposure seems to be quite a bit off, normal metering is, well,
acceptably, normal.
I haven't actually worked with any of the files I've produced with it,
they look pretty good in camera.
I've had a Pentax FA 35-80 before and have that focal range covered with
a number of lenses but heck it's in almost new condition.
Best of all it was all free.
Now I have to find an acceptable lens hood for the Sigma. If it's
output compares favorably with the images made with the F 70-210.
As a side note the Sigma is significantly smaller and lighter than the F
70-210.
*I've gotten other things I can use but it's rare. If anyone would like
a Sakar 135mm f2.8 in Nikon mount, needs some cleaning at the very
least, it's yours for postage. I also have a relatively rare
Mamyia/Sekor 90-230mm that needs some work that's negotiable.
