Sure, start the old computer up. Plug a removable drive into a USB port. Open the Windows\Fonts directory on the old computer and copy the font files to the removable drive. Then take the removable drive and simply plug it into the new computer and install the fonts that aren't already there as I described before.

If you don't have a removable drive, just get a thumb/jump drive from someplace like Amazon. I like this one it's cheap and silly,

or you can stop into a Staples and get one on sale. They've always got something in the 4-8 dollar range that will do the trick.

actually... is there a way I can just take the font library from the old computer, copy the fonts to an external drive, and then transfer those to the new computer? Independent of any web connection?

There's a second method of installing fonts as the first may not work, depending on what updates you have on your Win7 machine. If the first method doesn't work. Double click on the font file. That will open the preview window. There should be an install button. Click that.

That should put a copy of the font file into your fonts directory. When you're sure the fonts are installed you can delete the extra files.

Thanks PJ -
perhaps a dumb question but if I down load the ones I want, will they naturally fall where ELements 10 will see them and add them to my choices?

Ann, You can find almost any fonts or a close analog that you had here.

I was even able to find Decorated034 BT which may or may not still be available. Though I think I'll be using it for my copyright notices from now on.

"Broadway" is one.. and there are a few others.. that I could use when doing design work in Adobe Elements 5 - they are not offered in 10... I isntalled 10 in the new computer running Windows 7 pro - My old Dell is NOT networked with my new set up - relegated to
offline storage of old stuff.

Broadway was also available in Word 97 but isn't in Open Office.

There are a few others I no longer have available and a whole slew of very similar to each other ones that I don't care about..

I've got a feeling this might be a reslut of copyright overzeal but anyone know what I can do to get the fonts I love back?

Thanks,
ann
