So while waiting for my dad to finish a long treatment at the cancer center this morning I was casting about for large format lenses to put on the Omega/Toyo 45D that is on its way from KEH. I tripped across a Fujinon SW 90mm f/8 with issues for $179. Specificially, it was described as having "Scheineritis" which was a new term to me. Googling it, it appears that it is a separation of the lens from the black coating/metal around the perimeter of the lens. It looks bad, but according to what I found, it is harmless to the image quality as long as it is out of the optical path. So I decided to take a chance and made an offer on it, which was accepted.
This evening, I get an email from the seller saying "Looks like you are very lucky, because when I pack the lens all white stuff in front element gone and lens looks now almost perfect. I have now idea its a magic or something else. Let me know if you have white circles again. Alex." This is rather odd, isn't it? The original photo of the problem is the 2nd one in the listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Copal-0-Black-Shutter-With-Fujinon-SW-8-90mm-Rear-Element-Lens-Front-Is-Bonus-/272102895344 Anyone have any ideas? -- Life is too short to put up with bad bokeh. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
