This is Dale Zarrella, the sculptor of the Mermaid pictured in my
previous posts, at work behind his home on a cliff overlooking the

Dale paints, as well as sculpting. He works in bronze and other
media, but prefers wood, especially the wood of the Monkeypod Tree,
also called the Rain Shower Tree, which is widely found on Maui. The
new work is one of a series depicting Hawaiian legends concerning
mermaids and mermen.

Dale done numerous works on commission for resorts, museums and
wealthy collectors. He has had two commissions from the Vatican, and
recently presented a statue of Sister Marianne to Pope Francis.

"

I Love the Wood

It speaks to me with Silence

And in its Depth

It understands me.

In its Wisdom

It connects me

To a Source deep within

Through its Mystery

It speaks to me,

Sharing my Thoughts.

In our Journey,

It guides me

With Vision to see.

In its timeless Beauty

It inspires me

with Joy to set it free"
