I don't have direct evidence with the Samyang branded version, but I'll
bet it's is actually the same lens as the Vivitar 17-28, I had in KA
mount at one point. It is full frame, from the film era. Construction
seems to be pretty good, (until you bang it around a little, then the
pot metal innards make focusing problematic). Optically it was
"alright", when everything was working, pretty soft wide open, but
sharpened to better than acceptable when when stopped down a couple
stops. Focusing wasn't difficult at 17mm as everything was pretty much
in focus from 6 feet to infinity at f4.0. I wouldn't spend more that
$50.00 for a used copy, since you have no way of knowing how much abuse
it has taken, especially if I were selling it.
The exterior construction is up to nearly the best Vivitar standards, I
suspect the focusing helical is made of lead.

Some of the Samyang lenses are excellent optically, but I'm not
willing to bet that they all are.
In a related note, is there anyone in the Richmond area that could
take a look at it for me? It's a crazy drive from Santa Cruz.
