My best legs for travel are the Feisol CT3442 Tournament legs which pack down with head attached into a thinly padded case that is 19x5 inches in size. I can stuff this in my rollaway or strap it to my carry-on camera bag. I've brought it through security on at least a dozen flights strapped to the camera bag without any issues from the inspectors.
