I agree that the composition does not come together in in a pleasing manner, but its a fascinating photo in how you have capture the bird frozen in time giving the viewer a chance to see how it launches, how the feathers deploy and how the coloration helps conceal it. For me it still commanded a lot attention and was worthy of a long look.

Yeah, I too climbed trees a lot as a kid.
This one almost got away before I got the shutter released.
Believe it may be a Red Tail hawk.
