Screwdrive AF is going the way of the Dodo on everything except the most compact Pentax branded lenses. As the owner and still occasional user of a *ist-D and DS I recommend replacing whatever you're using that's prior to a K100D Super. You won't regret it. The D sits on a shelf and the DS is hardly ever used. Then you won't have to worry about lens compatibility, for a while at least.

I'm not sure if the 24-70 is SDM only but it is internal focus motor only.

Pentax has not produced any dual drive lenses since the first two SDM 
lenses--the 16-50 and 50-135.
