Your first clue is that you hardly ever use it. Hold the button down and gently pull on it. Maybe even run it under a bit of water. It is weather sealed after all. I'm willing to bet that it has just stuck together. If that button pushes down the release should be engaging. Even without a spring it should open up. Sometimes I have to pull on my popup to get it to come up. I should probably not drink coffee around my cameras. :)
