Cost was a consideration, along with a fully manual lens - with an actual aperture ring. This is important to me as I don't like having to control the aperture of a lens using the fingers of my right hand. That is a left-handed thing :-) Focus and aperture - left hand. Right hand - finger on shutter and adjacent button set for focus peaking.
