Rick's point about the foreground too. Maybe the same technique can be

Maybe, as an experiment, while you are doing the photos, bracket them by
aperture, so for each position photograph at f/4 f/8 and f/16 (adjusting
shutter speed), Then you could experiment with stacking photos of
different apertures to see which works best.

This photo is an experiment in stacking. It's made from about 40
exposures, which may be overkill but is at least without glitches in the
focus area.
Personally I don't like the sharp transition between in-focus and OOF
areas in the picture, and wonder if anyone has suggestions for how this
can be rendered in a more natural looking way.
