I would have posted this last night, but it was a pretty rough week and as they say, my get up and go, got up and went. Some good news, the septic system problems turned out to just be a bad check valve rather than a totally failed septic system. When things go wrong, I tend to assume the worst, so that any news I get from then on is more likely to be good news.

In the past year, before I stumbled on some great deal for upgrading whole systems, I did a couple of disk upgrades. The drive in my 24 inch iMac (ca 2007) died. It has a great monitor, and it seemed like dropping a 500g SSD in it would make it a good system for friends to use when they are visiting, and also for showing off my photos at parties. The one downside is that it seems to not read the drive temp and has the fan on all of the time. Make offer.

I also have a quad core mac mini, with 16G of ram, a 2 TB SSD and a 2 TB spinny inside of it. I also have the two drives that constituted the fusion drive, that I took out of it. Doing this conversion was quite a bit of work. The Samsung 850 Evo 2TB is selling for about $700 at Fry's (the price seems to have gone up), a 2 TB spinny drive is about $140, the kit from OWC is about $40. The biggest downside of this system is that it only supports one 2560 pixel monitor, though with a 27" thunderbolt and a 23" 1920x1080 mounted vertically, it's a very nice system as long as you are saner than I about the number of photos that you take and store on external drives. I think that about $2,000 is a fair price for the system. Note that with the thicker 2TB SSD, it was not a trivial replacement, and I had to leave one of the drives wedged in, but not screwed down.

Also, my 27" Thunderbolt monitor will not work with my new system, and I need the money more than I need an external monitor for a laptop. They seem to go for $500-600 on craigslist, and this one has a chip missing from a bit of the glass over the bezel. It doesn't affect performance, just appearance if you look closely at it. I'd like to get $500 for it.

I also have the Dell U2311H which I'm using as the vertical monitor, that I'd be willing to sell, but am not actively looking to sell.
