Greece is a disaster, especially Athens. Locals are allowed to
withdraw only a small amount of cash on any given day, but there is no
problem for foreigners. Credit cards are widely accepted in all areas
where tourists are found. The beautiful park across the street from
our first Athens hotel was over-run with homeless people, garbage, and
graffiti. The cops just stood in a group and watched. One American I
met ventured on the subway, where he was assaulted and his wallet,
cash, credit cards and passport were taken. By-standers pointed our
one of the perpetrators, but the police were disinterested.
It seems that tourism is the only real industry. Yet, there are
frequent strikes.that affect tourists. A couple of weeks ago, the
Acropolis was closed because of a strike. Transit strikes occur
regularly, and our second Athens hotel had a strike on the day of our
departure. There are many vacant and abandoned buildings in Athens,
and almost everything, except the Acropolis and the Tomb of the
Unknown Soldiers is covered with rude graffiti. The current political
unrest in Turkey has force cancellation of some cruise stops in
Turkish ports, also impacting the Greek tourist industry.
I am glad we went to Greece this year, as I fear it may cease to
function completely in the near future.

Ann, I thought about trying to dim the hotspot, and I am still
considering it. My reluctance is that in real life the reflection off
that particular window was blindingly bright, and I am inclined to let
the blown out area convey that aspect of the scene as I saw and
enjoyed it.
