Hmm. I'm not sure what you have going on there, Larry. My experience: - Lightroom (perpetual license, always up to date on version, currently 6.5.1) always properly unmount the card volume when it is done writing. I can tell this because it disappears from the Finder volume list. I'm running OS X v10.11.5 currently (again, I always keep OS X up to date) but it's always worked flawlessly.
- Very occasionally, one or another SD card will fail to mount the first time I slide it into the SD card reader on the mini. It seems to happen more with some particular cards than others, despite the cards being reformatted (either in camera or with SD Card Formatter). They always mount properly the second time I insert them. - I've never had an SD card fail to mount in a camera, any camera, unless it also failed to mount, permanently, in a card reader on OS X. That's only happened once. I discarded the card. So … I am not sure what you have going on with your system. I'd do a disk check and repair, validate the OS install, reinstall LR, etc. It seems rather odd.
