Well i ran a roll of Fuji 1600 through the Super Program, using the ,new to me,
lens above,(indoor horse show)and i thought i'd share 1st impressions.
First the lens looks and feels great and solid.I even managed to get some
shots in the darker arena and one thng i noticed was its very easy to focus in
lower light.
The lens did feel a bit off balance with the SP and coupled with the slappy
mirror and recessed shutter made for a few jerky pictures.I found with the
long focus ring i had to abandon my normal holding method(left elbow on my
body and left palm under camera/lens)as i was moving focus sometimes.I cupped
my thumb/forefinger around the mount area and used my elbows on the arean
boards as a 'tripod' which helped a lot.
Opticaly its seems a lot better than the 80-200 4.7-5.6 just by view finder
observations.Focus and zoom are smooth and fast.
I started the second roll in the K1000 and it balanced a lot better. The K1000
has a quieter mirror slap and a better shutter release, for me anyway, for
taking the jumping pic's and i noticed next to no camera movement when using
the lens/K1000 combo.
I think it would handle better for me on the SP if i used a MEII winder as a
grip and it would bulk up the camera is my quess.
Conclusion:Great lens(prints hopefully tuesday/Wednesday)will be replacing my
4.7/5.6 as main show lens.Works well in low light.Love the built in hood.Needs
a bigger body to feel balanced IMO.
K1000 will be the main host body,SP will be the main portrait,B&W,slide body
so i can use shorter lenses until MEII found.
Sunday, a side by side test with Jeff and the Tamron equivilent.
