Apparently the new Pentax "DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3ED PLM WR RE" (whew!)
sports the latest variation on the venerable K mount, which features
the electronic aperture control that I've been predicting for the past
couple of years. It's clearly been in the works for a while and Ricoh
was smart enough to start making cameras compatible with it before the
lens hit the market. The K-3 II, K-S2 and K-S1 can (with a firmware
update) use this lens.

I expect we'll see compatible lenses for quite some time yet before
the diaphragm actuation lever goes the way of the "aperture
simulator", at least from Pentax. I would expect 3rd party lens makers
to go for the KAF4 mount first because it'll make their manufacturing
process slightly simpler.
