I meant to say an out of focus white wall. If you can see dust without enlarging the image on your screen then you get the same effect as the dust alert anyways. A cloudy or blue sky of course works too. Dust can be infuriating if you let it get to you. I try not to wet clean all that often because you can easily weaken the adhesives sealing the cover glass on the sensor. Too much liquid is bad. My k7 has some dust under the cover glass.
